FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS FOR ECOMMERCE SITES

When you purchase your eCommerce site, you will be supplied with several pdf files to help you learn your way around. These can also be supplied on cd - there is a p&h charge - if you desire. However, we also have them here so you can find them easily when you need to, and also to see if there have been any updates since you received your files.

How do I log into the admin control panel?
  • 1. Go to www.your-store-address.com/admin
  • 2. Enter your username and password
  • 3. Click login
  • 4. Some sites will require you to repeat steps 2 and 3 again


  • How do I add categories and sub-categories?
  • 1. Go to tools
  • 2. Select catalogue menu
  • 3. Select categories/products
  • 4. Click new category
  • 5. To add a sub-category, select category name, then new category
  • 6. Add category or sub-category name and click update


  • How do I add a new product?
  • 1. Go to catalogue and select categories/products
  • 2. Choose the category for your product or select new category
  • 3. Click new product and fill in the product's details
  • 4. Select preview
  • 5. If you need to edit, click back
  • 6. When satisfied, click update


  • How do I put a product on special?
  • 1. Go to catalogue and select specials
  • 2. Click new product
  • 3. Select the product
  • 4. Enter the special price or percentage and end date if appropriate
  • 5. Click insert


  • How do I edit a product?
  • 1. Go to catalogue menu
  • 2. Select categories/products
  • 3. Select category name to view all products in that category
  • 4. Select the product you want to edit
  • 5. Select edit and make necessary changes
  • 6. Select update


  • How will I know when an order has been made?
  • 1. You will receive an automatic email containing order details
  • 2. You can also check your orders in the admin control panel by going to customer and selecting orders


  • How can I view details about my customers?
  • 1. Go to customers menu and select customers


  • How do I change the contact details for my store?
  • 1. Go to configuration menu and select my store
  • 2. Select the fields you want to update and click edit
  • 3. Enter your new contact details and click update


  • How do I change the email address associated with my store?
  • 1. Go to the 'configuration menu' and choose 'email options'
  • 2. Edit each of the email fields and click 'update'
  • 3. Go to the 'tools' menu and click 'admin settings'
  • 4. Edit the email field and click 'update'


  • How do I sell downloadable products?
  • 1. Adding Your Product to the Catalogue
  • I. Select catalogue then categories/products
  • II. Select category and click new product
  • III. Enter all applicable information
  • IV. Click preview and review your listing
  • V. If you need to change anything, click the back button at the bottom of the page (not on your browser) make changes then click insert

  • 2. Uploading the File
  • I. Click on tools
  • II. Click on file manager
  • III. Select the icon (not the text) next to download
  • IV. Click upload
  • V. In the menu on the right of screen, select browse
  • VI. Find the file and click open
  • VII. Click upload

  • 3. Creating the Dropdown Menu
  • I. Select catalogue then product attributes
  • II. In the white box at bottom of first list, type in the product option you want to apply, in this case download
  • III. Under the second list, click on the arrow of the dropdown menu and select the option you just added and add the value, in this case yes
  • IV. Scroll down page to product attributes list, click on the first arrow and select the product name
  • V. Click on the second arrow and select the product option (in this case download)
  • VI. Click on the third arrow to add any specific information (which will appear on your site’s dropdown menu)
  • VII. In the small box to the left of the third arrow, add any bonus or percentage discount if required, then change the plus sign to minus for a discount or leave for a bonus included in download
  • VIII. In the next line add file name of your download, e.g. product.zip
  • IX. In the next box put how many days the customer has to download the file, e.g. 7
  • X. You can add 1 to the number of times each customer can download the file, but 2 is recommended as a cover if the first download is not executed properly – most customers will attempt
  • to download a second time before contacting you
  • XI. Click insert


  • How can I add attributes to products such as colour and size?
  • 1. Go to catalogue then product attributes
  • 2. Under product options, in white box, enter the word colour and click insert
  • 3. From dropdown menu under option values, select colour
  • 4. In next box, add the colour, e.g. blue then click insert
  • 5. Repeat steps 3-4 until all colours have been entered
  • 6. Scroll down to product attributes
  • 7. From the first dropdown arrow, select the product
  • 8. From the second dropdown arrow, select colour
  • 9. From the third dropdown arrow, select the colour, e.g. blue
  • 10. If there is a variation in price, add it in the next box, if none put 0
  • 11. Use + or – whichever is appropriate (ignore the + or – if the value is 0)
  • 12. Click insert
  • 13. Repeat steps 7-12 until all colours have been added
  • 14. Add sizes or other information in the same way
  • 15. NOTE: the system default is alphabetical, therefore if you add sizes such as small, medium, large, the system will display these as large, medium, small within the drop down box. Likewise, if you have sizes 6, 8, 10, the system will default to 10, 6, 8. To overcome this, set out your values as 1. small 2. medium or 1. 6 2.8 etc.


  • How can I change the shipping fees?
  • 1. Go to modules and select shipping
  • 2. Select the module you want to change, e.g. flat rate
  • 3. Click edit and change the details
  • 4. Click update


  • My site is loading slowly and my images are very large, how do I reduce the size of them and improve load times?
  • There are a number of online image adjustment tools that will allow you to fix both of these problems. One that we recommend is: reducephoto.com
  • Once you go to the website you will need to click on the "Browse" button to find your image on your computer
  • Select new image size, we recommend a width of 400 pixels for most items but anything you want to provide more detail for then a larger setting might be appropriate. This tool can shrink your images by around 80% of the file size without losing any real image quality for online viewing
  • Next select the quality, we recommend "Better image quality"
  • Finally click the "Reduce Photo" button and save it to your computer for later uploading to your website. This will allow your images to display at a uniform size on your website, will greatly reduce load times for your pages and will allow you to upload images much more rapidly
